REGION 1 Private School Athletic Association (PRISAA) president Gonzalo Duque, also the president of Lyceum Northwestern University, has officially appointed Angelito Gumarang as the new commissioner of the coming PRISAA Pangasinan-Dagupan Inter-Collegiate Basketball Tournament replacing Edil Abalos.

In accepting his post, Gumarang, barangay chief of Bonuan Gueset, relinquished his post as head coach of the University of Pangasinan (UPang) Webczars basketball team to avoid any conflict of interest during the two-month long tourney which will unfold on August 20 at Stadia City Mall in Lucao District, Dagupan.

“It pains me to quit my job as head coach of the UPang quintet because I’ve been with them for so many years,” said Gumarang. “But I have to go on to avoid suspicion and speculation that may arise during the games and I will try to do my utmost to improve the annual league,” he added.

Gumarang also said he will try to invite the collegiate schools of the cities of Urdaneta, San Carlos and as far as Alaminos to join the tournament this year to add more color to the league.—JAG, Jr.
