DTI: Prices mostly stable
PRICES of some basic commodities are on the rise but if it’s any consolation, the prices of most goods remain stable.
This observation was made based on the latest monitoring of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office.
It noted that the cost of some basic necessities such as salt and canned food as well as prime goods such as construction materials have increased but DTI noted that majority of the prices of basic and prime commodities in the province remain stable.
The items that registered higher prices include detergent bar, processed pork and beef, and construction material such as cement, steel wire, G.I. sheet, steel bar and common wire nails.
Marjury Lorezco, chief of the trade-industry development specialist division of the DTI provincial office, said most traders generally have been observed to maintain prices of basic goods on their shelves.
“Nakita namin na hindi isinasagad sa SRP (suggested retail price) ang presyo ng ilang mga bilihin dito, mabait pa rin ang mga negosyante sa Pangasinan,” she said.
She added that the province also has the advantage of having big malls in the province that provide lower wholesale and retail prices.
The DTI provincial office, based in Dagupan City, conducted a province-wide monitoring of prices as part of a nationwide monitoring of SRPs of basic goods in view of the rising cost of fuel.
Lorezco said monitors were sent to Alaminos, Manaoag, Bayambang, Mangatarem, Rosales, Asingan, Dagupan, Binmaley, San Fabian, Calasiao.—CSR
