Daily feeding program for malnourished kids continues

SOME 700 pupils in three public elementary schools in Dagupan will be given nutritious food  everyday under Project Belen, a citywide feeding program which aims to reduce, if not eliminate, malnutrition.

Acting Mayor Belen Fernandez, the project initiator, launched the feeding program on Friday at the Carael Elementary School, Calmay Elementary School and T. Ayson Elementary School in Calmay Ilocano.

The feeding program at the Carael and Calmay elementary schools will last from 7 to 10 days while the feeding at T. Ayson Elementary School will last for 120 days.

Fernandez said Calmay Ilocano, where T. Ayson Elementary School is located, is getting longer program coverage since it was listed with the second highest level of malnutrition among children in the city.

Project Belen is being implemented in coordination with the city government with the support of the CSI Group of Companies of Fernandez, the Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan 2000 and the Philippine Dental Association chapter headed by Dr. Lucy Honrado.

Fernandez said Project Belen already covered almost all barangays in the city since its inception last year.

Fernandez said CSI’s participation in the project is part of its social responsibility program for the community.

Based on the evaluation of the City Nutrition Office headed by Leah Aquino, feeding in barangays where malnutrition remains high will continue, Fernandez assured barangay leaders—LM
