Dagupan among top RP cities
Dagupan City was adjudged one of the 25 top-performing Philippine Cities in Competitive Studies by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM).
It was one of ninety cities surveyed by AIM, composed of three categories, namely metro, mid-sized and small, analyzed and evaluated based on dynamism of local economy, infrastructure, human resources and training, responsiveness of Local Government Units to business needs and quality life, and others.
Dagupan City and 45 other cities were listed in the small-size category. Among the other cities are Bayawan, Calapan, Calbayog, Dipolog, Laoag, San Fernando (La Union), Malaybalay, Naga, Surigao, Tagbilaran and Tuguegarao.
Dagupan City Administrator Alvin Fernandez said Dagupan scored high in the evaluation by AIM and credited this success to the city’s human resources and training.
Fernandez said the thrust of the city government is to encourage employees to develop their core competence in order to provide services to the public and contribute in making the city a better place for further opportunities in employment and business.
The program, launched in 1999, is aimed at promoting national competitiveness through healthy competition among highly urbanized and developing cities.
The citation was presented during the awarding ceremony of the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Program (PCCDRP) 2007 in Makati City on July 4.
The award highlighted the importance of small and medium enterprises in progress and development.—LM
