Solve or bust.

Senior Supt. Isagani Nerez, the provincial police director, is now implementing a stricter deadline policy for solving crimes. All police chiefs have a maximum of three months to solve crimes in their areas of jurisdiction or face removal from their posts.

The police chief in Malasiqui town was recently ordered to step down from his post as several crimes committed in the town continue to remain unsolved.

“We give them the chance to redeem themselves, to solve a case in three months,” he said.

Under the terms of the Philippine National Police, a crime is considered solved if a case has been filed against an identified suspect or suspects, arrested or identification of their location established, and corresponding evidence collected for conviction.

Nerez said the policy is particularly being applied to PNP’s priorities, crimes that have high social, political and economic impact such as kidnapping, murder or robbery.

“The challenge there is to solve the case because the work of the police is to prevent the occurrence of a crime,” Nerez said, adding, “Pero pag ang pulis, hindi niya ma-solve in a period of three months eh makikita mo talagang tinulugan yong kaso.”

He said his move is consistent with the standing order of Gov. Amado Espino Jr. to initiate effective, proactive measures in peace and order and in anti-crime programs.

Meanwhile, Nerez also announced that their program against loose firearms has so far resulted in the confiscation of 56 unlicensed guns since January this year.

He also reiterated his earlier call for a more active community participation in maintaining peace and order in the province. #
