PLDT vows to restore all landline service by June 17
THE long wait of some subscribers of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) to hear the sweet sound of a dial tone on phones will soon be over.
PLDT has targeted a 30-day restoration of all its damaged landlines in Pangasinan in the aftermath of Typhoon Cosme with the countdown and restoration work beginning May 19. It means restoration is work nearing completion this week.
Gerardo Marquez, PLDT’s business zone head, PLDT employed five contractors working on damaged lines round-the-clock said to fast track restoration work.
“We will complete restoration by June 17,” Marquez said.
PLDT said 86 percent of its total working lines or about 15,000 out of its some 18,000 landlines were affected by the toppled posts and fallen wires, including the surge of cable thefts.
Marquez told the Dagupan City council that as of June 10, PLDT restored 60 to 70 percent of its damaged landlines in the city and 61 percent in the whole province.
He revealed that PLDT is still experiencing difficulty on multiple breaks suffered by its fiber optics which needs splicing and taking them a lot of time to restore.
“As we go on in our restoration work, we found multiple breaks in our fiber optics that are taking a lot of time to restore,” he said. —LM
