IT will be a non-working special holiday in Dagupan on Friday, June 20, in celebration of the city’s 61st Charter Anniversary.

The proclamation, contained in Proclamation No. 1532issued by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita by authority of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo dated June 12, 2008, was issued to enable the people of Dagupan City to mark the day with appropriate ceremonies.

Mayor Alipio Fernandez earlier issued an executive order designating Councilor Karlos Reyna as chairman of the executive committee for the city’s charter anniversary.

Dagupan became a chartered city on June 20, 1947 by virtue of a law passed by Congress authored by then Speaker Eugenio Perez Jr.

Dagupan, currently still the center for business in Pangasinan, was then the most progressive city in the province.

The mayor, Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez and other city officials will lead the celebration to be marked by a commemorative program at the Dagupan City Plaza.

The first city mayor of Dagupan was Alipio Fernandez Sr., father of the incumbent city mayor.—LM
