Farah Decano is new ULAP secretary-general

Dagupan City Councilor Farah Marie Decano has been voted secretary-general of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), the umbrella organization of local government officials’ groups, in an election held in Manila last week.

Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos, president of the League of Cities of the Philippines, won as the new ULAP president.

Binalonan Mayor Ramon Guico Jr., who heads the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, was also elected as ULAP executive vice president.

Decano, a lawyer, represented the 4L (Lady Local Legislators’ League) which she heads as its president.

Voting members of ULAP are presidents of various organizations of elective officials including the league of governors, vice governors, municipal and city mayors, vice mayors, councilors, 4L, National Movement of Young Legislators, national federations of Sangguniang Kabataan, Liga ng mga Barangay, and barangay kagawads.

Decano said under Abalos’ administration, people could expect ULAP to be felt at the grassroots level and  they vow to be independent,  especially on matters pertaining to national issues.#
