THE Dagupan Electric Corporation has restored power in Sitio Camanggaan in Mayombo at 4:00 p.m. on June 13 by installing a 100 kilovolt ampere transformer to replace the 75 Kilovolt Ampere (KVA) that was stolen in the aftermath of Typhoon Cosme.

Decorp finally obliged in replacing the lost transformer after six persons were finally identified by the barangay officials and the community as those responsible for the theft.

The residents of Sitio Camanggaan initially refused to cooperate in identifying the culprits that made Decorp initially warned that electricity in the community would not be restored unless the residents cooperated in the arrest of the persons responsible for the loss of the 300- kilo transformer.

Only the transformer’s case was recovered in the premises of a barangay councilman in Mayombo while its copper wire coil was traced to at a junkshop in Barangay Lucao.

The barangay residents relented and identified the suspects, all of whom are from the barangay, and charges are now being prepared against them.

Decorp Operations Manager Augusto Sarmiento said the company already received a formal report on the incident from Mayombo Barangay Captain Ming Guadiz.

Police Chief Dionicio Borromeo identified the suspects as Roberto Rebudal, a barangay kagawad of barangay Mayombo; Maximo Garcia, Gerry Escanio, Xander Escanio, Gerald Fernandez and Dominador Ocson.

Borromeo said that all the suspects have already gone into hiding.

The owner of the junkshop is now facing a separate case for violation of the anti-fencing law.

Decorp officials were incredulous over the claim of the residents in the area that nobody noticed the carting away of the huge transformer considering that it would take at least two hours to detach the transformer that was tightly fastened to an electric post.

Sarmiento added that the transport of the heavy transformer could only be affected with the aid of a boom truck.

City Councilor Danilo Torio, a barangay Mayombo resident, earlier called on Decorp to restore electricity in Sitio Camanggaan unconditionally as the residents’ sufferings in the aftermath of the typhoon were aggravated by the continued blackout in the community.

Decorp stood pat on its condition that the culprits be made accountable.—LM
