DCWD resets 2-tier water
IT’S good news and bad news for the people of Dagupan City.
The good news: customers of the Dagupan City Water District (DCWD) will not be made to pay the planned increased water rate soon.
The bad news is the relief will be temporary. The DCWD, headed by General Manager Ramon Reyna, will still implement the rate adjustment six months later, on January 1, 2009.
The water district simply agreed to defer its water rate adjustment originally scheduled on July 1, 2008 in consideration of the deepening economic crisis being experienced by residents, recently aggravated by the destruction of properties caused by Typhoon Cosme.
The decision was contained in Reyna’s letter read during the city council’s session on Monday by council secretary Jorge Estrada.
DCWD is set to increase it’s by 30 percent in the first two years and another 15 percent in the succeeding two years.
The DCWD advice indicates that the adjustment rates were already approved in a public hearing conducted by the DCWD on June 12.
In his letter, Reyna stated that the district management of DSWD agreed to defer the proposed water rate adjustment from the proposed effectivity date of July 1 this year to January 1 this year.
The DCWD justified the January 1 schedule citing “the highly determined effort of the national leadership and the vaunted resiliency of the Filipino entrepreneurial spirit would pull us through the crisis.” -LM
