Villasis athletes win ‘Lumbay Langoy, Bisikleta tan Batik’

LINGAYEN—Athletes from Villasis composed of Jefferson Valdez, Albert Calvero and Robeno Javier emerged as champions in the first Pangasinan Pistay Dayat 2008 Amazing Triathlon Event (ATE) dubbed as ‘Lumbay Langoy, Bisikleta tan Batik’.

The trio registered an official time of 110 minutes and 14 seconds to win the event.

The tri-athletes swam from Bonuan beach to the mouth of Pantal River in Dagupan City, then mounted their bikes to race from Pugaro to the PNP Target Range in Lingayen, and finally sprinted from the PNP Target Range to reach the finish line at the beachfront area at the back of the Urduja House.

Trailing the winners by four minutes and 10 seconds was the younger team from Bugallon composed of Randy Canto, Ryan del Castillo and Roland Canto.

The three had an aggregate time of 114 minutes and 4 seconds.

Landing in third spot was the team from Sto. Tomas manned by Cornelio Carpio, Ali Idos and Antonio Ventura Jr. posting 120 minutes and 12 seconds.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. commended all the participating athletes for their stamina, endurance, teamwork and the spirit of sportsmanship they had shown as this, he said, is the objective of the triathlon.

Cash prizes for the three winning teams were P20,000 for the champions, P15,000 for the first runner-up and P10,000 for the second runner-up.

Consolation prize of P1,000 and certificate of participation were awarded to the nine other participating teams from the different towns in the province. #
