Is Pangasinan RP’s Orchestra Capital?
LINGAYEN—Pangasinan may not know it yet but it could very well be the “Orchestra Capital” of the country.
Governor Amado Espino Jr. said the success of the recent Orchestra Festival held during the celebration of the Pista’y Dayat shows that the province could very well be the country’s ‘orchestra capital’.
Espino noted the finest orchestras in Luzon are based in Pangasinan, with eight actually settled in a small community in Basista town.
“Next year, there will be 10 orchestras from different towns in Pangasinan simultaneously playing here,” he said, adding that he wants “to show the whole world that we have the best orchestras in Pangasinan”.
“Pangasinan fiestas are never complete without the orchestras playing. Pangasinenses are really music lovers,” Espino added.
The family of Basista Mayor Raul de Guzman himself owns the famous ‘Don Podring de Guzman Orchestra’ located in Barangay Dumpay.
All the seven De Guzman siblings either sing or play instruments in the orchestra. #
