Asingan community holds “longest breakfast”
ASINGAN–Long is in.
Inspired by the previous longest grill record of Dagupan City’s Bangus Festival and the recent attempt of Sto. Tomas to establish its own during its Corn Festival, the people of a small barangay in Asingan held their own ‘longest breakfast’ Thursday as the highlight of their community fiesta celebration.
Gem Sapigao, chairman of barangay Carusocan Sur, his barangay is now planning to bid for a Guinness World Record next year following the enthusiastic participation of the residents in this year’s celebration.
Sapigao, also the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in this town, said in a phone interview with The PUNCH that more people than originally expected filled the 2.3 kilometer stretch where they partook of a breakfast meal.
Barangay leaders cooked 17 sacks of rice, 4,000 eggs, 4,000 pieces of longganisa, and more than 5,000 pieces of eggplant for the community but households who occupied the tables fronting their respective houses quickly added more viands to their liking.
Long tables covered with banana leaves were lined along the street served as the community’s common breakfast table.
“Sulit naman kasi masayang-masaya ang mga tao,” Sapigao said. #
