A better equipped PNP seen
OVER a five-year period, every policeman in the province will be issued his own service pistol with bullets to boot, and every police station will have its own patrol car and improved firepower capability and still expect air support from a helicopter that can be launched from the regional office in La Union.
This was announced by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. to the officers of the provincial station when he arrived here to inspect the extent of damage suffered by the police stations in the province.
He said these will be realized with the recent approval of the P10 billion modernization fund for the PNP by President Gloria Arroyo and whose releases will be made in 5 tranches.
The modernization fund will enable an immediate upgrade in the communications equipment of police stations and will also cover support for more training and scholarship grants, legal assistance, housing and medical benefits.
“We also have doubled your MOOE (maintenance operating and other expenses). That’s unprecedented,” he said.
With the good news, he cautioned the local officers about their conduct in the performance of their duties.
“Gone are the days when the police could act as if they were kings and civilians their servants.” He intoned. #
