LINGAYEN-Some 729 high school graduates throughout Pangasinan are competing for 36 scholarship grants being provided by the city government.

The scholarship, part of the pro-poor program of Governor Amado Espino Jr., also consists of financial aid to the students amounting to P7,000 every semester.

All of the candidates for scholarship have been screened whose main eligibility requires that the applicants’ family income does not exceed P60,000 per year, are residents of Pangasinan and must have graduated valedictorian or salutatorian of their classes.

The recipients or scholars may choose any four-year or five-year Bachelor’s degree or non-degree course in any government recognized institution of higher learning in the country.

However, priority courses have been identified, including the government’s ladderized courses, engineering, social work, entrepreneurship, and agriculture and agro-industrial courses.

Each municipality in the province was encouraged to be represented by at least one applicant in order to democratize the scholarship program.#
