WANTED: A beautiful and articulate Pangasinense
LIMGAS NA PANGASINAN
LINGAYEN–Beauty and brains no less, please.
These are the two qualities that will weigh in equally in this year’s search for Limgas na Pangasinan, the winner of which will represent the province in next year’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant.
Leo Urmaza, head of this year’s competition, said stricter screening process has been undertaken to test the intelligence of candidates by requiring candidates, for the first time, to write an essay on a chosen topic.
Umarza told The PUNCH that the move was prompted by the recent brouhaha over the Binibining Pilipinas winner who drew flak for her inarticulate and fumbling responses during the pageant’s question-and-answer portion.
Umarza said Governor Amado Espino Jr. himself gave instructions to give due emphasis on the candidates’ mental capabilities and alertness.
Limgas na Pangasinan is one of the highlights of the annual Pista’y Dayat celebration on May 1.
“Ayaw niyang mapahiya ang Pangasinan,” he said.
The submitted essays of the candidates will now form part of the basis for the ratings assigned to the “Q & A” portion. #
