Three-day Tour de Pangasinan kicks off May 1

LINGAYEN–Tour de Pangasinan, a three-day cycling event, will reel off on May 1 to 3 in line with the province-wide celebration of the Pista’y Dayat.

Former Board Member Dionisio “Saffe” Villar, Jr, president of the Eastern Pangasinan Cycling Association Inc. and organizer of the race, said 120 professional and amateur cyclists are expected to join the competition.

The opening event, covering a 200-kilometer route, will start in front of the Capitol and will finish in Bayambang, covering the first and second districts.

The following day, the cyclists will take off from Bayambang and ride through 185 kilometers of road going to Asingan for the third and fourth districts leg of the race.

On the third and final day, the last 165 kilometers will be covered from Asingan to the finish line in Bautista, the hometown of Governor Amado Espino Jr. who will lead the awarding ceremonies.

A cash prize of P15,000 will be given to the daily winner and P20,000 to the overall champion.

The second, third, fourth and fifth placers will get P15,000, P12,000, P9,000, and P6,000, respectively while the seventh up to 10th placers will receive P4,000, P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.

The 11th to 20th placers will receive P800 each and all finishers will get P400.

About 70 cyclists from Pangasinan have already expressed intent and the remaining 50 slots are open to outsiders. #
