SINCE NERI WON’T TALK

Cruz: Mass-forum was good

IF CHED chair Romulo Neri continues to invoke executive privilege and won’t answer crucial questions about President Gloria Arroyo’s instructions and reactions regarding the national broadband deal, Engr. Jun Lozada will provide the answers.

This was the assurance he gave to the national and local media during the press conference organized by Archbishop Oscar Cruz upon Lozada’s arrival.

Lozada said he’s willing to finally tell the senate what Neri confided to him were the statements and reactions of President Arroyo when the former reported the bribe scenario to the latter.

“If the Senate will accept my statement, I would tell them the truth,” he said.

Lozada arrived in Dagupan City amid a frantic effort by some suspected supporters of the Arroyo government to sabotage and derail his visit and the Mass for Truth and Forum organized by Archbishop Cruz.

Streamers, tarpaulins and leaflets aimed at discrediting Lozada mysteriously appeared on the city’s streets while streamers announcing details of the Mass for Truth and Forum disappeared on the day of his arrival in the city.

During the mass, elements of the Dagupan police station informed Fr. Oliver Mendoza of San Fabian Parish, one of the organizers, of a reported bomb threat in the area but this was ignored.

Cruz decried the “desperate” attempt of Malacanang’s allies involved in the cover-up to stop proceedings.

“We had a great mass and forum, God is good,” Cruz exclaimed.

In his homily, Cruz pointed to the evils of corruption and poor governance marked by lying, cheating and stealing. He encouraged the communities represented in the forum to not to relent in the pursuit for truth and justice started by Lozada.

Reacting to the series of black propaganda that met him, Lozada said he expected the intense hate campaign against him, including continued death threats.

At presstime, no one has come forward to claim responsibility for the materials distributed around the city surreptitiously.

He said he agreed to speak to communities that invite him to point out where the public’s indifference to corruption lead to and how these affect people’s lives in the end.#
