LNU bestows honorary degree on Lucio Tan

Business tycoon Lucio Tan, head of 18 of the country’s biggest corporations under the Lucio C. Tan Group of Companies, will be conferred the degree of Doctor of Humanities in Business Entrepreneurship by the Lyceum-Northwestern University during the Institution’s graduation exercises on April 16 at the CSI Stadia. Tan, chairman of the board and the biggest single shareholder of the Philippine National Bank, Philippine Air Lines, Air Philippines, Asia Brewery, Tanduay Distillery Inc., among others, will be conferred the honorary degree by LNU’s Board of Trustees headed by Dr. Gonzalo Duque.

Dr. Duque, former vice governor of Pangasinan, describes Tan as humble but a “superlatively successful man”.

Tan also heads Century Park Hotel, Allied Bank, Himmel Industries, Inc. Macro Asia Corporation, Landcom, The Charles House, ETON, and Top Goods, among others.

LNU is conferring the doctorate degree on Tan in recognition of his unwavering vision that is sparked by the noble desire to improve the plight of the poor and the marginalized and for his significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the Philippines.

He is also being recognized for his philanthropic activities through Tan Tan Kee Foundation. Thousands of scholars have been benefited by the foundation.

Tan created employment opportunities that epitomize the cherished core values and the highest ideals of the university, said Duque.-LM
