STA. BARBARA–Construction of the Gawad Kalinga housing project in barangay Leet here is now going full blast.

Tony Meloto, GK national president, true to his promise, immediately started the construction as soon as the model housing unit was built by the municipal government.

Municipal Administrator Albertini de Guzman said GK is initially constructing10 of the 88 housing units at the project site provided by the Sta. Barbara municipal government.

De Guzman said they aim to complete all the 88 units by December and award these to the beneficiaries who are contributing manpower for the construction work.

“Under the concept, the municipal government starts the project and will be finished by Gawad Kalinga, with the prospective beneficiaries contributing the labor,” De Guzman said.

The one-hectare project site was donated to the municipal government by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

DAR is set to donate an additional one hectare lot where the housing beneficiaries will set up their common livelihood projects, like vegetable raising, poultry and piggery.

Another housing project is being planned by the municipal government, with help from the provincial government and GK, at the back of the provincial nursery in Sta. Barbara.

The new housing project is expected to accommodate some 300 families, he said.—LM
