FOR the first time, a Pangasinense will lead the Philippine Councilors League (PCL), the organization of councilors nationwide with more than 16,000 members.

Dagupan City Councilor Michael Fernandez, elected during the PCL’s recent 7th National Congress in Manila, is also the youngest to hold the position.

Fernandez, nephew of Dagupan City Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., said he is elated by the trust given him by his fellow councilors and vowed to introduce programs and projects that will improve their capabilities as public servants.
He also promised to provide assistance for the welfare of the PCL’s members through legal and burial assistance.

Fernandez won over his lone opponent, lawyer Arecio Randor from Albay.

The PCL, formed in 1986, serves as one of the advisory councils of the President as a member group of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, currently led by another Pangasinense, Binalonan Mayor Ramon Guico Jr.#
