ALAMINOS CITY—Visitor arrivals in the Hundred Islands National Park shot up by 40%, from 11,514 to 16,084, same period last year, according to records from the City Tourism Office.

Mayor Hernani Braganza said the increase in tourists, both foreign and domestic, is a testament that Hundred Islands remains the top destination in the province.

He credited not just the local government’s efforts to improve the popular site, but also the media and previous visitors who promote the place.

To maintain the Hundred Islands’ attraction, the city government, in coordination with the Hundred Islands Tourism Related Establishment Cooperative, has programmed nightly events until May at the Lam-Ang Garden in Lucap Wharf, the jump-off point to the islands.

Activities include musical performances, modern dancing, ballroom dancing, and bar tending and flair tending competitions.

On May 1, traditionally celebrated as Pista’y Dayat provincewide, special activities have been lined up including the fishermen’s thanksgiving Mass followed by a mini festival with an adventure race, fun race, logo design contest, gourmet cookfest using crustacean and mollusk, bankathon, kite flying and design contest, and musical shows in the evening.#
