Farmers in the 4th District received 112 ( 5 hp.) water pumps from the National Irrigation Administration, courtesy of the Priority Development Assistance Fund of 4th District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr.

The release of the water pumps, costing P70,000 each, will boost agricultural production in the district since one pump can irrigate five hectares of land at one time.

De Venecia said he will continue to distribute water pumps, an initiative he has started four years ago, to help mitigate drought that has affected many food production areas.

“It is not only the planting of rice that will be supported by the water pumps but also the planting of corn, peanuts, vegetables and other cash crops,” said National Irrigation Administration Regional Director John Celeste

Celeste also said the water pumps can also be used for transport when converted similar to the kuliglig, a hand field tractor attached to a trailer.

De Venecia said the farmers can now boost their produce since the water pumps will enable them to irrigate their farms independent of an irrigation system.

The distribution of water pumps by De Venecia was witnessed by his wife Gina, Mayor Herminio Romero of Mangaldan, Rodolfo Columbres of San Jacinto and Napoleon Sales of Manaoag, and Mrs. Arlyn Libunao, wife of San Fabian Mayor Mojamito Libunao.—LM
