Navarro shines in Werweran

REYNALDO Navarro, a former member of the national squad and a SEA Games veteran, relied on his experience to win the 2008 Werweran ed Mangaldan cycling race held March 2.

The 32-year old Navarro, a son of San Jacinto, stayed with the lead pack until seventh round of nine, and out-sprinted three breakaway partners in the last two hundred meters to win by a half-wheel length over Manaoag boy Ericson Obosa.

Navarro brought home P15,000 while Obosa earned P7,500.

Tarlac City-born Elmo Ramos Jr., now a resident of Binalonan, came in a close third to net P5,000 while Mangaldan’s promising   star  Ariel Flores, winner of the UPang and Lingayen races recently, landed fourth with P3,000 followed by Mark Julius Bonzo from Sual  who checked in fifth and received P1,000.

The top five finishers are all members of the Pangasinan’s Pitaki Boyz squad.

The seventy two start ers were flagged off by Mangaldan Mayor Herminio Romero.

In the second race of the day, three-time Marlboro Tour first runner-up Placido Valdez of Cabanatuan City surprised the local riders by arriving all by his lonesome at the finish line of the Master-Executive category, pocketing the P5,000 top prize.      

Pitaki Boyz manager Jazy Garcia arrived in a mad-dash finish against Manileno Ruel Gendrano to place second.

Mangaldanon Benigno Molina and San Manuel rider Mon Nicolas finished fourth and fifth. JAG, Jr.
