Espino bares new projects

STATE OF THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT

LINGAYEN—Governor Amado Espino Jr., keen on keeping his campaign promises, again presented to the provincial board on Monday the state of the provincial government and list of projects he intends to move the province forward.

The first-term governor reiterated his administration’s accomplishments since he took office in July last year, less than two months since he presented his State of the Province Address (SOPA) on January 24.

Espino committed himself to his 10 major development thrusts: safe and peaceful neighborhood, quality and affordable health care, adequate and high quality education, increased agricultural productivity, better jobs and income opportunities, youth and sports development, tourism development, affordable and socialized housing, mega infrastructure projects and Pangasinan Special Eco-Tourism Zone.

The first eight development thrusts are based on the immediate priorities outlined by the governor in his SOPA.

The two additional components — mega infrastructure projects and Pangasinan special economic zone – are intended “to stimulate the sustained economic progress of the province”, said Espino.

Included in the mega infra projects are the establishment of an international seaport in Sual and the upgrading and renovation of Lingayen airfield, both of which have already been initiated in the past weeks.

These two projects are expected to pave the way for the influx of tourists and investors in Pangasinan and transform the province as the center of economic activity in northern Luzon.

For the Special Eco-tourism Zone project, clearing operations and civil works on the proposed 186-hectare site is already underway.

The eco-tourism area will cover the four barangays in Lingayen, namely: barangays Sabangan, Estanza, Malimpuec and Capandanan.

Espino noted that Pangasinan is among the few large provinces with no special economic zone.

His other priority projects include the refurbishing of the capitol building and other buildings inside the complex, the Lingayen Resort Hotel, the 10 agriculture demo stations of the office of the Provincial Agriculturist and Veterinarian, upgrading of the 14 hospitals under the Provincial Health Office and the development of other provincial government properties.—LM
