GMA visits province anew
MALASIQUI–Barely a month since her last visit, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was back in the province, this time to launch the national government’s Food-for-School Program at the Malasiqui Central School here.
Arroyo, accompanied by Gov. Amado Espino Jr., 3rd District Rep. Rachel Arenas, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral, and Education Secretary Jesli Lapus, distributed bags of goods to daycare children.
Under the Day Care Food-for-School program, children will receive packs of rice and other food items for 45 days.
The President also led the groundbreaking of a two-storey, four-classroom building at the school compound.
Also distributed were scholarship certificates from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, PhilHealth cards, and buntis kits to expectant mothers.
Farm equipment like irrigation pumps and tractors were also handed out to farmers and some 519 land titles were also handed over to agrarian reform beneficiaries.#
MUSLIM SUPPORT
Meanwhile, Muslims in the province appealed to protesters calling for the President’s resignation to allow proper investigating bodies uncovering the truth to finish their probes.
Datu Allan Maasir, a Muslim leader here and regional coordinator of the National Anti-Poverty Commission told The PUNCH that his 20 fellow Muslim leaders from Pangasinan and Region 1 recently met to express their support to the President through a signed manifesto.
“Whatever issues confronting the President and her administration are, these should be settled in proper forums, not in the streets” Maasir said.
There are about 10,000 Muslims in Pangasinan, according to Maasir.—CSR
