Farmers treated to Pacquiao – Marquez match at expo
ROSALES–Farmers trooped en masse to the Farmers Agricultural Exposition 2008 in barangay Carmen East for a different reason this time.
They came to watch the match between Manny Pacquiao and World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez on a wide screen making the expo site a veritable boxing arena last Sunday.
They were joined by feeds and fertilizer distributors, and exhibitors.
Engr. Rosendo So, chairman of the said agri-expo, said that he was happy to oblige the farmers with “ringside” seats via the cable viewing.
The farmers rowdily and lustily cheered when Pacquiao decked Marquez in the third round of the scheduled 12-round bout and quickly muted the Pinoy boxing hero was being pummeled by the legendary Mexican fighter in some of the succeeding rounds.
Mrs. Armi Bangsal-Lorica, a feeds and fertilizer dealer from Lingayen town, said that she shared the excitement of the farmers when Pacquiao was declared the winner.
“I prayed hard this morning asking the Lord that Pacquiao win the match,” said Leticia Abarabar, a technical counselor of Calugsugan Technologies.
Venancio Abalos, general manager of the Balikatan Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative based in barangay San Angel here, said everyone in the crowd felt proud being a Filipino.–CSR
