Duque warns vs. heat stroke

MALASIQUI-Summer is here and the intense heat is on.

Health secretary Francisco Duque III has a timely advice to his kabaleyans.

“Be very cautious about the effects of over exposure to sunlight,” he said.

Duque, who arrived here with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo last week to launch several government projects, reminded people to drink at least eight to 12 glasses of water to avoid dehydration and to minimize direct exposure to the sun, especially between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

He further encouraged people to exercise but not in places “na masyadong mainit.”

But Duque had a dire message particularly for penitents and flagellants during the Holy Week observance.

“Get anti-tetanus shots after they’re through with flagellation,” he warned.

He noted that the seemingly harmless public flagellation can cause deadly results if the flagellants are not careful.

“They should go to nearest hospital for the anti-tetanus shot,” he said.—CSR
