THE Dagupan City government will soon launch the 324 emergency hotline, similar to the US’ 24-hour 911 help line, to extend medical and emergency assistance to people in distress anytime.

City Administrator Alvin Fernandez said the city’s emergency action center at the Dagupan Museum will host the hotline and will be operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“A unique feature of this project is the appointment of persons with disabilities (PWD) but with mental and other capabilities to manage the center, said Fernandez.

For the center’s requirements, however, the deaf, blind and mute will not be appointed.

The training of the PWDs in handling and processing of emergency calls will be conducted by an operational call center.

“The city is harnessing PWDs to man its telephone hotlines to demonstrate that the city has a place for PWDs in public service,” Fernandez said.

The 911 concept is popular in the United States and has also been adopted by Davao City in Mindanao and Puerto Princesa in Palawan.

Fernandez said Hotline 324 will also serve expectant mothers who may need to be rushed to the hospital to give birth.

The “mobile hospital” made available by Congressman Jose de Venecia Jr., is now on standby at the premises of emergency action center for use anytime.

The emergency action center has direct lines to the police, fire department, National Bureau of Investigation, and all hospitals.—LM
