Arenas to DPWH: Speed up work on Calvo Bridge
MALASIQUI–Rep. Rachel Arenas of the 3rd District of Pangasinan has appealed to the Department of Public Works and Highways to speed up the construction of the Calvo Bridge in Bayambang.
In an interview, Arenas said the people are now getting impatient over the sluggish pace of construction of the bridge, the only access to and fro the town of Bautista, Alcala, Sto.Tomas and Rosales.
Arenas inspected the project last week and was told by construction officers that setting up the foundation of the bridge would take a long time.
The Calvo Bridge, a vital link between Bayambang and Bautista, underwent minor repairs after it was damaged by the 1990 earthquake and this is the first time that it is undergoing a major renovation.
But Arenas said her constituents in the area who noticed the construction of the bridge is hardly making any progress.
A P70 million funding was allocated by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for the project.
Four other bridges — two in Malasiqui, one in Bayambang and one in Calasiao — have been lined up for construction this year.
Like the Calvo Bridge, all these bridges are under the administration’s Bridge Program in the countryside.—LM
