‘Kasalan sa San Fabian’
SAN FABIAN—Before the world bade goodbye to the heart month this year, 161 couples here exchanged “I dos” in a mass civil sunset wedding ceremony dubbed “Kasalan sa San Fabian” on Thursday.
Officiated by Mayor Mojamito Libunao, the mass civil wedding was held amid the back drop of rain, which was considered a blessing since it seldom rains on summer days.
Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and Mrs. Gina de Venecia, wife of 4th District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr., and Irene Libunao, wife of the town mayor, stood as sponsors.
Most of those who were married have been living together as man and wife without the benefit of marriage.
The “Kasalan sa San Fabian” has been an annual event for the past six years with more than 1,000 couples benefiting so far.
Last year, 276 couples married, 177 in 2006, 56 in 2005, 255 in 2004, 159 in 2003 and 91 in 2002.
The theme of this year’s mass wedding held at the town’s Public Auditorium was “Maayos na Pamilya, Susi ng Maunlad na Bayan”.
The couples were introduced by Municipal Civil Registrar Cynthia Soriano while National Statistics Office Regional Director Alfredo Batoy delivered a message stressing the importance of marriage.—LM
