Stage set for Ms. Buntis 2008
Move over traditional beauty queens. The stage is set for the most beautiful, talented and intelligent expectant mother.
The Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) Region 1 chapter and the Department of Health are holding a pageant in search of the fairest pregnant woman as part of the celebration of the fifth National Buntis Day on March 9 and 10.
The two-day event aims to bring together 1,000 pregnant women from all over Pangasinan and the Ilocos Region.
Dr. Ellen Manzano of the POGS, in an interview with The PUNCH, said the event, with the theme “Aling Buntis Saludo Kami Sa Iyo, Kasangga Tungo sa Malusog Na Bansa”, is part of their advocacy on maternal and child health to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity in the country.
Interested aspirants may enlist themselves at the Office of Dr. Genevieve Ong at the Region 1 Medical Center on Arellano, Dagupan City.
There will be pre-pageant of candidates on February 24.
Contestants must be 20-34 years old, married, classified by her obstetrician as non-high risk, have undergone at least three pre-natal check ups, and already 16 to 33 weeks pregnant during the pageant based on certification of their attending obstetrician.
During the pageant proper on March 10 at the Jimmy Fernandez Stadia in Lucao District, Dagupan City, the contestants will compete in casual maternity wear, talent competition and evening gown.
Winners will bring home cash prizes, including the P10,000 for Mrs. Buntis 2008.
March 10 has been declared as Araw ng mga Buntis by President Gloria Arroyo by virtue of Proclamation No. 569 issued in 2004. #
