URDANETA CITY– Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Rosario, a medical doctor, is set to present a resolution that will set guidelines on the authorized and proper use of government ambulances.

Rosario denounced how local officials and employees have been using ambulances for personal and other functions other than responding to medical emergency situations in their communities.

In an interview with The PUNCH, he said “it is funny that some treasurers also use ambulances during payday to withdraw money from the banks.”

He also noted that public ambulances are sometimes seen parked outside shopping malls, cockpit arenas, banks, schools, and hotels.

“Let it not be said that we did not do our part in reminding them to be circumspect in its use because funds used for these units are sourced from people’s money,” he said.

He said the poor should always be given priority access to ambulance service, especially during emergency cases.

Rosario will seek to apply the guidelines to local government units that are autonomous in the use of the ambulances since only rural health units (RHUs) that are under the direction of the provincial government.

In a related development, a provincial board resolution has been passed asking the Philippine charity Sweepstakes Office to donate 14 ambulances to 14 RHUs in the province.-#
