House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. continues to enjoy solid support out here in the north.

His colleagues in the House of Representatives, belonging to a group known as the Northern Luzon Alliance, have signed a manifesto opposing recent moves to oust De Venecia from his long-held seat at the helm of the lower house.

“It is our unanimous sentiment that ‘to rock the boat’ at this time by removing him as Speaker of the House will have a negative effect which will surely result to divisiveness that will distract the ongoing programs of the administration that will sustain economic growth and stability,” reads the manifesto dated January 29, a copy of which was furnished The PUNCH.

The manifesto was signed by 25 congressmen, including Eric Singson of the second district of Ilocos Sur, Rodolfo Albano III, Edwin Uy, Faustino Dy III and Georgidi Aggabao of the First, Second, Third and Fourth Districts respectively of Isabela, Arthur Celeste;

Victor Agbayani, Maria Rachel Arenas, Mark Cojuangco and Conrado Estrella of the First, Second, Third, Fifth and Sixth Districts respectively of Pangasinan, as well as Robert Estrella of ABONO Partylist.

Other signatories were Manuel Agyao of the lone district of Kalinga, Elias Bulut Jr. of the lone district of Apayao, Solomon Chiongbian of the lone district of Ifugao, Junie Cua of the lone district Quirino, Samuel Dangwa of the lone district of Benguet, Mauricio Domogan of the lone district of Baguio City;

Tomas Dumpit Jr. of Second District of La Union, Manuel Mamba of the Third District of Cagayan, Victor Francis Ortega of the First District of La Union, Ernesto Pablo APEC partylist, Salvacion Ponce Enrile of First District, Cagayan, Ronald Singson of theFirst District of Ilocos Sur, Edgar Valdez APEC partylist Florencio Vargas of Second District of Cagayan.

The manifesto said divisiveness and disunity in the House will be counterproductive to their remaining two and a half year- term, which is barely enough to accomplish their legislative agenda towards national stability, peace and solidarity.

“This must not be allowed for it is not only prejudicial to the House of Representatives but more importantly to the Filipino people whom we are bound to serve,” the congressmen pointed out. #
