“Batang Kalakal” bested 18,000 other entries from 60 countries, including those of CNN and British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

The entry won approval by the majority of the filmfest judges and was given a standing ovation by the spectators.

The New York Film Festival is a 50-year old award-giving body that recognizes the world’s best film documentaries.

Among those who congratulated Ms. Pulido for her outstanding feat were Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino Jr. and lawyer-educator Gonzalo Duque, president of Lyceum-Northwestern University and the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU).

According to Pulido’s father, the episode was “accidental” as Maki was then waiting for her “real” subject when she glanced at a child nearby shivering from the breezy weather. #
