YOUNG and promising cyclists will hit the national highways anew when the Lingayen Cycling Challenge unfolds on February 24.

Mayor Ernesto “Jonas” Castaneda, who is bankrolling the event, said  some 60 participants are expected to participate in the race that will start and end in front of the municipal hall.

The race route covers Binmaley, Bongalon junction of Labrador via barangay Domalandan, Socony junction of Bugallon via barangay Magtaking and back to Lingayen.

The cyclists will travel the same route twice with an approximate distance of 90 kilometers.

“We are holding this event because we want to help our athletes in the province, especially the young ones, sharpen their skills especially now that the annual big race is around the corner. And wealso believe that the best and maybe the main way to curb the drug addiction of the country is through sports,” said Castañeda.

“And I also hope that someday soon we can produce another Edmundo de Guzman in my town,” added Castaneda, referring to the Tour of Luzon veteran who reigned as the 1962 Tour of Luzon king after many tries.

Top prize is P5,000—JAG, Jr.
