A cruel joke

Kudos to the Dagupan City Legal Officer George Mejia, City Engineer Virginia Rosario and Decorp Atty. Numeriano Tanopo Jr for standing firmly on their ground as the last bastion to protect the rights of Bonuan Binloc residents against professional squatters defacing the serene beauty of the coastal beaches of Bonuan.

That area being on a public land should be open, not privately owned by a favored few with political connections.

At Bonuan Binloc, we need a buffer zone for tourism, unobstructed but accessible to the general public and to our local fishermen to dock and unload their early morning catch.

It is basic for the City Government of Dagupan to grant building permits only for a worthy cause that insures safe, efficient and effective use of public lands for the general welfare and well-being of its residents.

It’s true everybody can apply for a piece of property on a public land but it is an inherent right for the City Government of Dagupan to prioritize its ownership to local Binloc residents before others especially to the poor and the marginalized citizenry.

To grant a building permit and ownership to a piece of prime property (napaka mahal yan at libre pa) to Mayor Macanlalay, a resident alien, is a cruel joke to the residents of Bonuan.
