Volunteer workers get addt’l P1,500 allowance
THE barangay health workers (BHWs) and barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) in Dagupan City are in for a better deal this year.
They will be paid additional P1,000 monthly allowance beginning January.
This was provided for in Ordinance No. 1903-2007 approved by the city council granting additional allowance to these workers as a form of incentive.
The ordinance, sponsored by Councilor Librada Reyna, chair of the committee on social welfare, was proposed in consideration of the escalating costs of living.
Reyna said the SP quickly approved the ordinance since the workers work on a volunteer basis but also meet food and medical expenses in rendering public service since they are in the field.
A total of 323 registered health workers and 31 nutrition scholars will benefit from the ordinance.
With the addition of P1,000 to their meager P500 allowance, each volunteer worker in the city’s allowance will now total P1, 500.— CIO
