Flour, milk prices on the rise
The prices of flour, processed milk and construction materials are on the rise, according to Marjury Lorezco, chief of the trade-industry development specialist division of the provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Lorezco, however, also quickly added that other basic commodities are stable.
The price for hard and soft flour increased by at least 3.75% and 1.39%, respectively, this month compared with the previous month.
On the price of processed milk, Lorezco said there was an increase of about 1.71% to 3.27% for condensed milk; between 1.76%and 2.87% for evaporated milk; and between 2.93% to 8.32% for powdered filled milk.
The increase is due to the increase in the price of raw materials and higher cost of production, she said.
Construction materials like nails, G.I. sheets, steel wire, and steel bar also had a slight increase in price.
Lorezco said the increase in flour prices is due to the increase of price of wheat in the world market following low production, which is attributed to global warming.
The DTI recently initiated a series of meeting among flour millers and bakers to discuss uniform pricing and the strict use of weighing scale in their production. -CSR
