SIX Filipino-American doctors from Oklahoma, USA were in Dagupan City on a medical mission for psychiatric patients January 24 to 25 in coordination with the Philippine Medical Health Association-Pangasinan Chapter and the Dagupan City government.

The team was led by Dr. Maria Kane, a psychiatrist and an immediate past president of the PMA-Oklahoma chapter. A Dagupeña, Dr. Rebecca Feliciano, also a psychiatrist, was with the team.

Dr. Kane said their association raised funds for the medicines used for psychiatric treatment and the team readily raised more funds among themselves when the supply runs out.

“Most of the patients that I’ve seen today are closely monitored here and get medication regularly,” she said.

She admitted that medication is really a problem since psychiatric medicines are normally expensive and cannot be afforded by poor families.
