DCWD eyes P100M bank loan

AFTER getting a cold shoulder from the city council regarding its proposed multi-million peso loan with the Local Water Utilities Administration for an expansion project, the Dagupan City Water District is now shopping for a bank that could extend the loan

DCWD General Manager Ramon Reyna hinted the city water district is now considering to borrow P100 million from either the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) or the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) to finance Phase II of their expansion program.

He said both DBP and Bank of PI offer lower interest rates.

Reyna said Phase II of the expansion project involves the construction of new water systems in Bonuan where a reservoir that can store 2,450 cubic meters of water will be built.

He pointed out that three additional pumping stations need to be constructed to produce bigger volume of water for consumers in Tapuac, Malued and Lucao.

Reyna said the expansion is necessary as DCWD anticipates nearly a 100% increase in the number of water consumers in the next 10 years, from 18,000 to 35,000.

Earlier, members of the city council expressed reluctance to endorse DWCD’s proposed loan with LWUA as this may result in  increased water rates soon.—LM
