. . . as Sto. Tomas hosts bikathon on Feb. 3
STO.TOMAS– Close to 100 cyclists will converge here on February 3 to see action in the 165-kilometer cycling road race as part of the town’s centennial anniversary and first-ever Corn Festival.
The bikathon, dubbed as Sto. Tomas Centennial Cycling Road race, will flag off and end here after passing 19 towns in the Fifth and Sixth Districts of Pangasinan.
Spearheaded by the Eastern Pangasinan Cycling Association, Inc. led by former Provincial Board Member Saffe Villar Jr., the race is open to both professional and amateur cyclists.
Villar said the bikathon is one way of promoting cycling among the youth of Pangasinan.
The winner of the race will receive P15,000 while the first runner-up will get P12,000 and the second runner-up, P10,000.
Other top finishers will receive P8,000 for 4th placer, P7,000 for fifth placer, P6,000 for sixth finisher, and P5,000, P4,000, P3,000 and P2,000 for 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th finishers, respectively.
Survivors from 11th to 20th place will receiveP500 each; 21st to 30th place, P400 each; 31st to 40th, P300 each; and 41st to 50th, P200 each.
Villar previously organized cycling races in the different towns in the fifth and sixth districts.
He said he is encouraging the youth to engage in sporting activities to keep them away from drugs.—CSR
