ELATED by the success of his first cycling project held last December 16, PNP Region 1 Director Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil will do a repeat on February 2, this time to start and finish at Binmaley in conjunction with the celebration of the town fiesta.

Dubbed as “RD Gen. Bataoil Cycling Challenge,” the bike fest is being organized in cooperation with the host’ municipal government headed by Mayor Simplicio Rosario. The event will be exclusive to Pangasinenses, with a maximum of 70 professional and amateur contestants.

Bataoil and Rosario will flag off the participants at 11:00 a.m. across the municipal hall.

The cyclists will pedal through San Carlos City, Basista, Urbiztondo, Mangatarem, Aguilar, Bugallon, Labrador via barangays Soconi-Magtaking, Sual, Alaminos City, back to Sual, Labrador, Lingayen via barangay Domalandan, then ends in Binmaley, or a distance of 138 kilometers.

Cash prizes, trophies and medals are at stake with the champion winning P8,000 plus trophy.

First and second runners-up will bag P6,000 and P4,000, respectively, and also with a trophy each.

Fourth finisher will net P2,000 and fifth placer earns P1,000 while sixth to tenth finishers will get P500 each. Fourth to tenth placers will also receive a medal apiece.

All survivors will be given an incentive prize of P200 each.

Special ‘summit sprint’ prizes located at Suasalito Point five kilometers after Sual town will be donated by 2nd Engineering District Director Rodolfo Dion and San Carlean Blandino Caguioa.

“Once again we are staging this kind of event because we want to show to the people that to be involved in sports like cycling, we will have a healthy heart and a healthy mind. And I believe that if you seriously involved yourself in sports like the youth, we can minimize- if not get rid-of the drug menace that is affecting our society,” said Bataoil.

The road battle wheel-by-wheel account will most likely be aired live at Sonshine Radio DZRD 981 Khz AM from start to finish.—JAG, Jr.
