Tayug ready to host 2,000 athletes in Provincial Meet

TAYUG–All is set for the Provincial Meet slated here from January 28 to 31 to be participated in by some 2,000 athletes from Units I to IV under the auspices of Pangasinan School Division II.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. will deliver the keynote address on January 28 at the newly renovated Tayug Sports Center inside the Tayug National High School (TNHS).

Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias-Agabas will be the guest of honor and speaker during the meet’s closing ceremony on January 31 while Rep. Conrado Estrella III will deliver his own message.

The sports center, main venue of the four-day meet, has been spruced up at a cost of P2.7 million, according to Mary Lynne Bautista, TNHS principal.

Seeing action in the four-day meet are athletes from the Fourth District (Unit 1), Fifth District (Unit II), Sixth District (Unit III) and private schools (Unit IV).

Sports events such as track and field, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, taekwondo and chess will be held daily at the main venue while boxing will be held at the Luna Colleges.

Lawn tennis will be held at the old Voice of the Philippines compound while gymnastics, archery and table tennis will be held at the Tayug Central Elementary School.

Basketball for girls will be held at the Mormon’s Chapel playground while basketball for boys will be held at the Tayug Municipal Plaza.

Meanwhile, swimming for boys and girls will be held at the Treasure Island Resort in barangay Barangobong.—LM
