THE Dagupan City police has increased police visibility to curb commission of petty crimes against residents and visitors who walk to malls, plazas, and churches during this yuletide season and the city fiesta celebration.

Police Supt. Dionicio Borromeo, Dagupan police chief, said the presence of the cops in the streets should make criminal elements such as pickpockets, snatchers and bag-slashers think twice before picking out their victims.

More police personnel have been deployed in malls, and churches especially during Midnight Mass and in areas with activities relating to the fiesta.

Plainclothes policemen have also been deployed to conduct intelligence operations.

Borromeo also reminded the public to be extra cautious when they are out shopping or joining in the festivities.

“Avoid crowded areas. These are where pickpockets and bag-slashers usually strike,” Borromeo said.

He also advised people who are withdrawing from automated teller machines (ATMs) to be always on guard, have a companion as much as possible, and refrain from talking to strangers loitering around ATM machines. —CSR
