OVERSEAS Dagupeños are expected to flock to the Dagupan Plaza on December 30 for the Pawil Dagupan Night, one of the most-awaited highlights of the Dagupan City fiesta.

The activity will be the climax of the ‘Pawil Dagupan’, a program renewed by the new city administration to entice overseas Dagupenos to return home to join the merry-making during the city fiesta and yuletide season.

“This year’s Pawil Dagupan hopes to surpass the attendance last year,” Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, hermano mayor of the Dagupan City Fiesta, said.

Last year, some 60 balikbayans from different parts of the world came home for the Pawil Dagupan program.

During this year’s Pawil Dagupan Night, the balikbayans will be celebrating in a traditional barrio fiesta ambiance, playing Pangasinan folk songs, rondalla, native dances and other cultural presentations.

Mayor Alipio Fernandez, Jr., Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez and other key officials of the city will award plaques of appreciation and recognition to outstanding and accomplished overseas Dagupeños during the event.

As an added attraction, the event will also feature the selection of Pawil Dagupan 2007 ‘King and Queen’, ‘Face of the Night’, ‘Best Dressed Pawil Dagupeño’, ‘Mr. & Mrs. Romantic Partner’, Most Represented Association, Most Active Balikbayan, Best Dancing Partner, Youngest Balikbayan, Oldest Balikbayan, and the early bird.

Upon arrival in the city, balikbayan Dagupeños are being requested to register with the City Mayor’s Office.
