OVER a hundred people, mostly nurses, participated in a fun run initiated by employees of the Region I Medical Center (R1MC) last December 2 to raise funds for the hospital’s young indigent patients.

Mamerto Patungan, senior nurse at the R1MC surgical department, told The PUNCH the activity is part of the hospital’s Christmas celebration.

“May mga pasyente talaga na walang-wala at di-makayanan ang ilang gastusin tulad na lang ng pagpapa-CT Scan (We have patients who really have no means for hospital expenses like CT Scan),” he said.

Patungan also said he is happy that this year’s fun run, unlike in previous similar events, was participated in by not just R1MC employees but also hospital staff from the Villaflor Hospital and Pangasinan Medical Center.

Also in attendance were nursing students from the University of Pangasinan, University of Luzon, and Colegio de Dagupan.

He expressed hope that by next year, more individuals will participate in fun runs so as to help more indigents.

Patungan also thanked Councilor Karlos Reyna and members of the Association of Nursing Service Administrator of the Philippines (ANSAP)-Pangasinan chapter, the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), SPECTRUM Radio Group, and Panda Volunteer Fire Brigade for supporting the project.—CSR
