Duque Science High leads student press conference
After four years, the Francisco Q. Duque Medical Foundation Special Science High School of the Lyceum Northwestern University reasserted its dominance in local campus journalism when it emerged over-all champion in the recently concluded Dagupan City Division Schools Press Conference (High School Division).
FQDMFSSHS student writers won in almost every event to accumulate 148 points, which was 13 points away from runner up St. John Cathedral School (135) and 15 points away from third placer Divine Word Academy of Dagupan (133).
“We finally brought home the overall championship trophy,” said Ronnie Bonao, FQDMFSSHS principal.
LNU President Gonzalo Duque congratulated the student writers, who compose this school year’s editorial staff of “The Spectrum,” the official publication of FQDMFSSHS.
The paper’s adviser is Rea Tiangson.
“We are very proud of them,” Duque said.
Leading FQDMFSSHS winners were April Mae Serafica, first place, editorial writing (Filipino), Leo Marco Urmaza, first place, copy reading & headline writing (English) and Jan Ephraim Padlan, first place, sports writing (Filipino).
Other winners were: Phoebe Rose Tolete, 2nd place, editorial writing (English), Ahikam Pasion, 2nd place, feature writing (English), Allanah Cris Paragas, 3rd place, photojournalism (Filipino), Renz Jose Sto. Domingo, 3rd place, editorial cartooning (Filipino), Joselito de Leon, 4th place, sports writing (English), Lhanamir Divina, 4th place, editorial cartooning (English), Danmar Kevin Brao, 5th place, photojournalism (English), Ramon Jericho Cuison, 6th place, feature writing (Filipino) and Reo Famela Terrado, 6th place, news writing (Filipino).
FQDMFSSHS also won third place in the Scriptwriting and Radio Broadcasting contest. The team was composed of Ahikam Pasion, Leo Marco Urmaza, Krizzian Ferrer, Reo Famela Terrado, Valerie Grace Vicente, Phoebe Rose Tolete and April Mae Serafica.
Meanwhile, FQDMFSSHS was also the Over-all Champion in the YMCA Province-Wide Academic Olympics held November 17, where Shirley Mae Japay was champion in the Bible Quiz and the QDMFSSHS Dance Troupe was champion in the Modern Jazz Dance Contest. #
