LINGAYEN—It was a banner year for the Provincial Health Office’s campaign against dengue and diarrheal diseases.

According to Dr. Anna Ma. Theresa de Guzman, acting Provincial Health Officer, the number of recorded cases for dengue went down by 68% while for diarrhea incidents decreased by 70%.

From January to December 20, there were 701 dengue cases caused by mosquito bites across the province with only 12 deaths compared to 2,129 with 23 deaths last year.

As of September, only 3,126 diarrhea cases were reported compared with last year’s record of 10,837 cases.

De Guzman, in an interview with The PUNCH, said the improvement in the numbers can be largely attributed to their early and intensive information campaigns.

TIGDAS

Meanwhile, De Guzman also reported that the “Knock-out Tigdas” drive as of December

20 has reached 94% coverage.

Knock-out Tigdas is a door-to-door mass immunization drive against measles for children within the risk bracket of nine months to two years. #
