Dagupeño cited as RP outstanding boy scout
Asuka Toyoshima, born in Japan but raised in Dagupan, has been honored by the city government for having been named as one of the ten outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP).
This 17-year senior student of the Dagupan City National High School is overwhelmed by the award and said he is happy about the many doors that have been opened to him since.
“Many offers came and many chances were present,” Toyoshima told The PUNCH.
Toyoshima received the award from the BSP in October and was given honors by the Dagupan City Council last Tuesday.
Toyoshima’s Scout Master Alfredo Gamer was also named as one of the Outstanding Scout Masters in the country.
He said he is also taking on the challenges and responsibilities that go with the honor.
The outstanding boy scouts are chosen based on character, personality, achievements, and community leadership, among others.
The young man said the word “believe” is his guiding principle in life.
“When you are in doubt and you do not believe in the blessings that God can give, you can’t walk in a dark place but when you believe, nothing is impossible,” he said.

Meanwhile, Toyoshima is in search of his Japanese father and has sought help from authorities, according to sources.
But Toyoshima declined to discuss the matter with the media, saying he would like to keep this part of his life private.
Toyoshima, who has been given by Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines Inc. a two-year college scholarship in any state college or university, said he plans to take up Accountancy at the University of the Philippines.
The last time a Dagupeño was included in the outstanding BSP list was 28 years ago. #
